Why I built The Door

I'm Lu, I've worked remotely my entire career, and I built The Door to be the organized, step-by-step system I wish someone had handed me on day one.

A short intro from Lu is in the works.

I've worked remotely for my whole professional career. Friends would constantly ask me how to do it, and for a long time I never had a concrete answer, I just did the work. I applied, I wrote to a lot of people, and most of the time it took months to land something.

It wasn't until I had to look for work again recently that I realized I actually did know how to do this, I'd just never written it down. So I said: people need to know there's a way to do this that's organized, and far less stressful, without losing months of time on guesswork. This is a system that's worked, including for me, every time I've had to use it.

When I started, there was real urgency. So I built a PDF. Literally, I wrote down everything I was doing, linked every job board that was actually getting me replies, and put it all into one document. Then I realized: there has to be an easier way than handing someone a PDF and asking them to read it all themselves. That's when I started learning how to build a real website and dashboard instead.

One of the first moments I knew this mattered: our first beta user got an interview by the second week of using the system. He ended up landing his dream job. That's when it really hit me, this isn't just a nice tool, it can change someone's life. I want everyone who comes through The Door to have that same shot.

The hardest part of building this hasn't been the system itself , it's been growing an audience. That taught me something I didn't expect going in: building a community matters more than I realized, because that's how people actually support each other through a process that can otherwise feel really isolating.

If I could tell someone starting their own founder journey one thing, it's this: it's a long road, you'll have to learn a lot, but it's genuinely possible. If you have an idea that can improve someone's life, there's really nothing to lose by trying.

"I want people to be positively impacted by the work I do, and by believing they can have bigger dreams than what they've been sold."

Where this is going

A bigger version of The Door

I want to grow The Door into something much bigger than a dashboard, eventually, a real job board in its own right. And alongside that, I'm working toward something I care about just as much: creating real educational access for people from underserved backgrounds, career skills, AI literacy, even free English courses for people who can't otherwise access them. Once you have stability, the real question becomes what you do with it. I want The Door to be part of the answer to that question, for as many people as possible.

This is where I want to take The Door, not something available in the product today.
