How to Actually Use the LinkedIn Job Board
A practical system for finding the right remote roles, setting useful alerts, and spending less time scrolling.
Start with a shortlist: The Door filter recipe
Use the same filters each time so you spend your energy evaluating roles, not rebuilding searches.
| Filter | Set it to | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Date posted | Past 24 hours | Postings older than three days already have 200+ applicants. |
| Remote | On | Filters out on-site. Still check the post — some 'remote' roles are US-only. |
| Experience level | One level above and one below yours | Titles aren't standardised. You'll miss good roles by filtering too tight. |
| Location | The country you can legally work for, not where you live | For contractor roles, set it to United States and read the post for LatAm eligibility. |
| Company | Add the ones from your follow list | Narrower results, higher reply rate. |
Search the job title, not your dream. 'Customer Support Specialist' returns roles. 'Remote job' returns nothing useful. Try two or three title variations — Customer Support, Customer Success, Client Services — and save each as its own alert.
Set up your alerts in six minutes
- Run a search you'd actually apply to, with the filter recipe above applied.
- Toggle Set alert on at the top of the results.
- Set frequency to Daily, and turn Email on — in-app notifications get buried.
- Repeat for your two or three strongest job titles. Stop at five alerts total.
- Add company alerts for the five companies you most want to work for.
- Open the alert email every morning before you do anything else. That's the whole system.
Ten minutes now. Then openings find you.
Find the right jobs, not all the jobs
LinkedIn's default job search is noise. These three settings turn it into a shortlist.
- Search for jobs on LinkedIn (LinkedIn Help). The basics of the job board, straight from LinkedIn.
- Filter and sort job search results (LinkedIn Help). Every filter explained, including the ones buried under 'All filters'.
- Find remote jobs on LinkedIn (LinkedIn Help). How LinkedIn defines remote, hybrid and on-site — and why hybrid roles keep sneaking into your results.
Let the jobs come to you
Set these once and openings land in your inbox every morning instead of you hunting for them.
- Job alerts on LinkedIn (LinkedIn Help). What job alerts are and how to create your first one.
- Manage job alerts (LinkedIn Help). Edit, pause or delete alerts once you've set too many.
- Create job alerts for specific companies (LinkedIn Help). Get notified the moment a company you're targeting posts anything.
- Manage email notifications for job postings (LinkedIn Help). Switch alerts to email so you're not relying on the app.
- Troubleshoot job alerts (LinkedIn Help). If your alerts stopped arriving, start here.
Be findable
Half of remote hiring starts with a recruiter searching, not you applying.
- Let recruiters know you're Open to Work (LinkedIn Help). Turn on the recruiter-only signal without telling your current employer.
